Delhi Court Awards Life Imprisonment in Minor Rape Case, Conviction Secured Within 34 Days of FIR

New Delhi, June 1: In a significant case highlighting swift investigation and speedy justice, a Delhi court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a rape case involving a minor girl, following an investigation conducted by Nihal Vihar Police Station.

According to Delhi Police, the case came to light after a minor girl disclosed that she had allegedly been sexually assaulted over a period of time by a person known to her family. Upon receiving the complaint, Nihal Vihar Police promptly registered an FIR under Section 64(2)(m) and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police officials stated that the victim’s statement was recorded with sensitivity and in accordance with legal procedures. A medical examination was conducted immediately, and scientific evidence was collected to strengthen the case.

The accused was apprehended on the same day the FIR was registered, ensuring a swift start to the investigation process.

Delhi Police said the investigation was completed expeditiously, and a chargesheet was filed before the court within just 34 days of the registration of the case.

During the trial, the prosecution relied on witness testimonies, scientific evidence and DNA profiling. The court completed the trial proceedings within eight days and found the accused guilty of the offences charged.

The court convicted the accused under Section 64(2)(m) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

Upon conviction, the court sentenced the accused to rigorous imprisonment for life. In addition, a fine of ₹50,000 was imposed on the convict.

The court also sanctioned victim compensation of ₹16.5 lakh to support the survivor.

Delhi Police described the case as an example of coordinated investigation, prompt action and effective prosecution, resulting in timely justice for the victim.

Officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring swift investigation of crimes against women and children and bringing offenders to justice through a victim-centric approach and evidence-based policing.
