New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired a high-level review meeting with the Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to assess the status and progress of key civic initiatives and ongoing works in the national capital’s core areas.
During the meeting, the focus remained on addressing operational challenges, strengthening infrastructure, and ensuring efficient delivery of essential civic services across NDMC-managed zones. The LG emphasized that NDMC, as the Urban Local Body responsible for the heart of the capital, must set benchmarks in citizen-centric governance and adopt global standards in service delivery.
Highlighting priority areas, Sandhu stressed the need to explore advanced technologies and international best practices for efficient waste management. He also underlined the importance of developing pedestrian-friendly infrastructure in high-footfall areas such as Khan Market and Connaught Place to enhance urban mobility and public convenience.
The LG further directed officials to examine measures to rationalise power tariffs for NDMC residents in order to reduce their financial burden. He also encouraged greater collaboration with chambers of commerce, civil society groups, and voluntary organisations to strengthen the education ecosystem through a participatory approach.
Emphasizing day-to-day civic concerns, Sandhu called for sustained focus on effective garbage management, timely road repairs, dust control measures, and prompt redressal of issues raised by citizens and the media.
He also advised NDMC to remain open and responsive to feedback, stressing the importance of bridging the gap between ground realities and service delivery expectations. According to the LG, such responsiveness is essential to achieving truly citizen-centric governance in the capital.
