New Delhi: A faulty smart LED street light in Delhi must be repaired within 24 hours, failing which the cost will be deducted from the responsible contractor’s payment, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said while outlining the maintenance system for a new street lighting project.
Gupta inaugurated the project to replace existing street lights with energy-efficient smart LED lights across all Public Works Department (PWD) roads in the national capital on October 15.
Control-room alerts for faulty lights
The Chief Minister said an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) was already in place for the lights under the new system. Even a single malfunctioning light would trigger a notification to the control room, and the contractor responsible would be required to repair it immediately.
No light could remain out of order for more than 24 hours, she said, adding that a delay beyond that period would lead to a deduction from the contractor’s payment.
Move away from batch repairs
Explaining the previous process, Gupta said faulty lights used to be collected in batches of 20 to 50 before a repair tender was issued. They were returned to service after the tender was executed.
