New Delhi: A CBI court at Rouse Avenue in New Delhi sentenced Sanjeev Dixit, also known as Sanjay Sharma, to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.6 lakh in a Punjab National Bank fraud case, the Central Bureau of Investigation said on Monday. The conviction and sentence were pronounced on October 24.
The case concerned a ₹4-crore cash-credit facility allegedly obtained from PNB’s Jor Bagh branch using bogus and forged property documents. The CBI said the loan proceeds were diverted to purposes other than those for which the facility had been sanctioned.

Case registered in 2013
The agency registered the case on July 11, 2013, naming Sanjeev Dixit, proprietor of Shankar Metals; Sanjay Sharma, proprietor of Super Machines; Indra Rani; and other unknown persons. It alleged a criminal conspiracy to dishonestly and fraudulently obtain the credit facility.
Escape from custody and arrest in Rajasthan
According to the CBI, Dixit escaped from judicial custody in 2016 while being produced before a court in Sonipat in connection with another case. He subsequently evaded arrest and was declared a proclaimed offender by the trial court on November 23, 2017.
In January 2026, investigators received information that he was living in Vadodara under the false identity of Pankaj Bhardwaj, the agency said. Acting on that information, the CBI traced him to Mata Tripura Sundari Mandir at Umrai in Rajasthan’s Banswara district and arrested him on January 30, 2026.
Guilty plea during trial
The CBI said Dixit pleaded guilty during the trial to criminal conspiracy, cheating by personation, cheating, forgery of valuable security, forgery for the purpose of cheating and using forged documents as genuine. The court convicted and sentenced him on October 24, the agency said.
