New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested a 52-year-old man within hours of the fatal stabbing of a 28-year-old man in Kalyanpuri and recovered a blood-stained knife and clothes allegedly worn during the attack, according to East District Police.
The victim, identified as Anil, was stabbed in Kalyanpuri at around 8:17 am and later died at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.
Police identified the accused as Nihal alias Pulla, 52, a sanitary worker. He was apprehended by the Anti Narcotics team while allegedly attempting to flee.
Police said CCTV footage, technical inputs and checks at border points were used to trace the accused. He was arrested at around 9 pm, within hours of the killing.
A blood-stained knife allegedly used in the crime and the clothes worn during the attack were recovered, police said.
The operation was carried out by East District Police and the Anti Narcotics Squad, with a team led by Inspector Arun Dagar, SHO Kalyanpuri, under the supervision of senior officers.
East District DCP Rajeev Ranjan said those committing crimes in Delhi should not expect to evade the law, while Special Commissioner of Police, Zone-I, Devesh Chandra Srivastava said there was no place in East Delhi for those who violate the law.
