New Delhi, May 29: In a major boost to civic infrastructure and community development in the national capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NBCC (India) Ltd. for the construction of a world-class Auditorium and Community Centre in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency under the Chief Minister Development Fund.
The MoU was signed on May 29 in the presence of MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and NBCC Chairman and Managing Director Dr. K.P. Mahadevaswamy, marking the beginning of a significant public infrastructure project aimed at enhancing social, cultural and community facilities in the area.
The proposed facility is designed as a modern, inclusive and multi-purpose public venue equipped with advanced infrastructure to support a wide range of social, educational, cultural and administrative activities.
A key highlight of the project will be a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of approximately 1,000 people. The venue is expected to host public functions, cultural programmes, seminars, official events, educational activities and large community gatherings.
In addition, the complex will feature two fully equipped conference halls, each capable of accommodating around 100 participants. These halls will be used for meetings, workshops, training programmes, stakeholder consultations and public interaction sessions.
According to MCD officials, the project reflects the civic body’s continued commitment to strengthening public infrastructure and improving community-oriented facilities across Delhi.
NBCC (India) Ltd., a Government of India enterprise with a proven track record in executing large-scale infrastructure projects nationwide, will be responsible for implementing the project. The collaboration is expected to ensure high construction standards, timely completion and modern architectural design.
Officials said the upcoming Auditorium and Community Centre will serve as an important social and cultural hub for residents of Shalimar Bagh and neighbouring areas. The facility will provide educational institutions, resident welfare associations, cultural organisations, social groups and government departments with a dedicated platform to conduct programmes and activities in a professional and well-equipped environment.
The project is expected to significantly enhance community engagement while creating a modern public space capable of supporting diverse civic and cultural initiatives for years to come.
