New Delhi: The seizure of 140 cartons of illicit liquor from a Tata Ace mini truck in Alipur has led Delhi Police to widen its investigation into the source, transport route and possible supply network operating across the Haryana–Delhi border.
Two men, identified as Sonu, 22, and Ashok, 26, both residents of Jindpur village in Alipur, were arrested in the operation, police said. A Tata Ace mini truck and a scooty allegedly used for transporting the liquor were also seized.
According to police, the Special Staff of Outer North District received secret information early on October 14 about the movement of illicit liquor in the Alipur area.
After verification of the information and briefing senior officers, a raiding team led by Inspector Vishvendra Choudhary was constituted. The team included Head Constables Naveen Hooda, Narender and Atul.
Acting on the information, police intercepted a Tata Ace mini truck bearing registration number DL1LAE6352 near Chitra Dharam Kanta in Jindpur village.
During the search, police said 140 cartons of illicit liquor were recovered.
Of these, 117 cartons contained 50 quarters each, amounting to 5,850 quarters. Another 23 cartons contained 12 bottles each, taking that portion of the recovery to 276 bottles.
Police also seized the Tata Ace and a scooty bearing registration number DL8CAH3142, which were allegedly being used for transportation of the liquor.
A case, FIR No. 587/26, was registered at Alipur Police Station under Sections 33/38/58(D) of the Delhi Excise Act. Both accused were arrested and the seized liquor was taken into police possession.
Further investigation is now focused on establishing where the liquor was procured from, identifying other persons allegedly involved in its transportation and supply, and tracing the wider network police suspect may be operating across the Haryana–Delhi border.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of ACP/Operations Dinesh Kumar and the guidance of Additional DCP-I, Outer North District, Lokeshwaran R.
