Delhi Assembly Security Breach: Accused Arrested, Probe Intensifies into Motive

Date:

New Delhi: A day after a major security breach at the Delhi Assembly, police have arrested the accused and intensified investigations to uncover the motive behind the incident that has raised serious concerns over high-security protocols.

The incident occurred on April 6 at around 2:00 PM when a car forcibly entered the Assembly premises through Gate No. 2, triggering panic among security personnel. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver managed to breach the restricted zone, prompting immediate alert across security agencies.

The accused has been identified as Sarabjeet Singh, a resident of Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested within hours of the incident from the Roop Nagar area, and the vehicle used—a Tata car—has also been seized.

Sequence of Events Raises Questions:
Investigations revealed that after entering the premises, the accused first approached the official vehicle of Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. He allegedly opened the car door, placed a bouquet and garland inside, and remained in the vehicle for some time.

He later moved towards the Speaker’s office, where he again placed flowers outside before exiting the premises through the same gate.

The unusual actions of the आरोपी have raised questions about intent and possible security gaps, as he was able to remain inside the high-security परिसर for several minutes without immediate interception.

Police Investigation Underway:
Police sources said the accused is being questioned extensively to determine whether he acted alone or was influenced by any external factors. Officials are also examining why he did not follow formal procedures if he intended to meet the Speaker.

No explosives or suspicious materials were recovered from the vehicle or the परिसर. However, given the sensitivity of the location, a high-level probe has been ordered, with senior officers leading the investigation.

Background & Family Inputs:
Preliminary inputs suggest that the accused had been missing from his home for several days before the incident. He reportedly travelled from Pilibhit to Bareilly and then to Delhi.

Family members have indicated that he has a history of erratic behaviour and had recently purchased the vehicle used in the breach. They also claimed he often leaves home without informing anyone.

Security Concerns Intensify:
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over security arrangements at key government institutions, especially in the backdrop of past breaches in high-security zones.

Authorities are now reviewing protocols to ensure such lapses do not recur, while continuing to investigate the accused’s exact motive behind the act.
