Delhi CM Launches ₹8 Cr Pilot to Bury Overhead Power Cables in Shalimar Bagh

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday kickstarted a pilot project to shift overhead electricity cables underground in the BH Block of Shalimar Bagh’s Janta Flats Colony. The ₹8 crore initiative is expected to be completed within three months.

Gupta said the project would improve safety, efficiency, and aesthetics, and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Smart Infrastructure”. A broader ₹100 crore budget has been allocated for phase-wise rollout across Delhi.

The initiative involves removing 5 km of overhead high-tension and low-tension lines and replacing them with 10 km of underground LT (440V) and 1.2 km of HT (11KV) cables. Additionally, 23 double-source feeder boxes will ensure reliable, round-the-clock power supply.

Power Minister Ashish Sood and Tata Power-DDL CEO Dwijadas Basak were present at the launch. The discom said the project will serve as a replicable model for safe, clean, and sustainable urban power infrastructure across Delhi.
