Atishi Raises Alarm Over Water Crisis in Delhi, Requests Urgent Meeting with Chief Minister Gupta

Date:

New Delhi: In a pressing appeal regarding the ongoing water crisis in the national capital, Leader of the Opposition Atishi has formally reached out to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, requesting an immediate meeting to address this critical issue.

In her letter, Atishi highlights the struggles faced by Delhi residents, particularly women and children, who are forced to queue for water tankers and purchase bottled water due to disrupted supply lines. “The sight of women standing in long lines with buckets and children waiting with pots has become emblematic of life in Delhi,” she remarked, questioning whether this reflects the vision the BJP promised to the city’s inhabitants.

Criticizing the BJP-led Delhi government, Atishi pointed out that water supply has been cut off for up to 24 hours at a time, while the administration remains unresponsive. “Despite the BJP’s so-called four-engine government at the Centre, which includes the Lieutenant Governor, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and the Chief Minister’s office, the citizens of Delhi continue to struggle for basic necessities like drinking water,” she stated.

With rising temperatures expected in the coming weeks, Atishi warned, “If conditions are this dire in May, what will happen when the heat reaches its peak? Does the government intend to leave its citizens at the mercy of fate when it comes to accessing water?” She characterized the situation as more than just an administrative failure, labeling it a sign of “gross negligence” on the part of the BJP government.

Atishi urged Chief Minister Gupta to uphold democratic principles by allowing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs the opportunity to meet and voice the concerns of Delhi’s residents.

As of now, there has been no response from the Delhi government or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
