NEW DELHI: The government of India has announced an increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each, as per an official order issued on Monday. The excise duty on petrol has been raised to Rs 13 per litre, while that on diesel has been increased to Rs 10 per litre.
The Ministry of Petroleum announced on Monday that retail prices of petrol and diesel will remain unchanged despite the recent increase in excise duty on these fuels.

“PSU Oil Marketing Companies have informed that there will be no increase in retail prices of #Petrol and #Diesel, subsequent to the increase effected in Excise Duty Rates today,” the ministry posted on social media platform X.
