Man Injured After Suicide Attempt at Delhi Metro Station, Seen Clinging to Wall Before Jumping

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man, identified as Vikas Sharma from the Hauz Khas area, attempted suicide by jumping from the railing of the Mayur Vihar Phase-1 Metro Station in east Delhi on Monday afternoon. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel to rescue him, Sharma was injured and is currently receiving treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.

A video of the incident captured Sharma dangling from the railing before ultimately jumping, drawing a large crowd to the scene below. The incident took place around 12:40 pm when Sharma was spotted hanging from the station wall, facing the roadside.

Authorities were alerted by the station controller of Mayur Vihar-1 metro about Sharma’s precarious position, and a rescue operation involving CISF, Delhi Metro staff, local police, PCR, and the fire brigade was launched. Despite their best efforts, Sharma jumped onto the road below at approximately 1:40 pm. He was initially taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital and later transferred to GTB Hospital for further treatment.

During the rescue operation, a mobile phone, a paper with contact numbers, a metro card, and Rs 1,370 in cash were recovered from Sharma. The motive behind his suicide attempt remains unknown, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause.
