New Delhi: Bawana police have arrested two 19-year-old men in Andhra Pradesh in connection with the October 19 firing at Pooth Khurd and recovered the motorcycle allegedly used in the incident, Delhi Police said on Sunday.
Police identified the arrested men as Arun Sharma and Suraj, both residents of Sultanpur Dabas village in Delhi. Their alleged links with Nitin Dabas, alias Vicky Hadal, and his associates are being investigated.
Firing outside a helmet factory
The complainant, who runs a helmet-manufacturing factory near Kapil Dharam Kanta in Pooth Khurd, told police he heard gunfire while inside on October 19. On coming outside, he allegedly saw two motorcycle-borne men firing at his parked car and the iron gate of a tiles godown opposite the factory. The car was damaged, police said.
A case was registered at Bawana police station on October 20 under sections 125, 324(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
CCTV and phone records led investigators to Andhra Pradesh
Police said CCTV footage and call-detail analysis helped trace the suspects. A team pursued leads in Visakhapatnam before locating them at a dance studio in the Narasannapeta area of Srikakulam district. They were arrested with the assistance of local police. The operation was led by Inspector Akhilesh Bajpai, SHO of Bawana police station.
Alleged VoIP contacts under investigation
According to preliminary police findings, Arun Sharma allegedly came into contact with Nitin Dabas on social media and later used a VoIP application to communicate. Police are examining allegations that Dabas directed the two men to collect weapons and money from Bahadurgarh in Haryana, identify targets and remain connected online during the firing.
The precise nature and timing of those communications, the source and intended use of the weapon, the motive and the alleged roles of Dabas and other associates remain under investigation, police said.
