New Delhi: The Delhi Government has launched a Morning Nutrition Program in partnership with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, marking six years of the foundation’s continuous service in the national capital. The initiative aims to ensure that schoolchildren receive a nutritious meal when they arrive at school, strengthening their health and academic performance.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in a post on X, congratulated the foundation for its sustained contribution and reaffirmed the government’s full support for the initiative. She described the programme as a significant step toward ensuring that no child begins the school day on an empty stomach.
Highlighting the broader national framework, the Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, flagship initiatives such as PM POSHAN, the National Food Security Act, and the Poshan Abhiyan have transformed nutrition into a nationwide movement. She noted that securing a healthy future for every child has become a national priority and is foundational to nation-building.

Explaining the programme, Gupta said the Morning Nutrition Drive will initially be implemented in select Delhi government schools in collaboration with Akshaya Patra. While the Mid-Day Meal scheme has been running for years, the need for morning nutrition was increasingly felt to improve students’ energy levels and classroom engagement.
She emphasized that adequate nutrition is directly linked to better concentration, improved attendance, and reduced dropout rates. “A child cannot study effectively on an empty stomach. When students receive proper nourishment in the morning, they have the energy to focus, stay motivated, and participate actively in learning,” she stated.
The launch event was attended by senior BJP leader Shyam Jaju, Akshaya Patra National President Bharat Raghav Das, Vice President Chanchalapati Das, and Delhi Municipal Corporation Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma, among other dignitaries.
Officials expressed confidence that the Morning Nutrition Program will not only enhance children’s health but also strengthen punctuality and academic outcomes across Delhi government schools.
