Dense Fog Disrupts Normal Life in Delhi-NCR; Transport Services Hit, Orange Alert Issued

Date:

New Delhi: A thick blanket of dense fog has brought normal life to a grinding halt across Delhi, NCR and several neighbouring cities, significantly disrupting road, rail and air traffic. Authorities have issued an Orange Alert, warning that foggy conditions are likely to persist and worsen in the coming hours.

Visibility dropped sharply across the region, forcing motorists to slow down and triggering widespread travel disruptions. Several trains were delayed by hours, while multiple flights were either delayed or cancelled, causing inconvenience to thousands of passengers.

According to aviation tracking platform Flightradar24, over 35 flights at Delhi airport are currently operating behind schedule due to low visibility. On the rail network, more than 22 trains have been delayed, with some services running several hours late.

The impact of the fog was visible across multiple locations, including Anand Vihar, Najafgarh, Ghazipur, RK Puram, Dhaula Kuan and Kashmere Gate in Delhi, as well as Meerut and Karnal in neighbouring states. Morning and late-night travel has become especially difficult, with commuters struggling to navigate through near-zero visibility conditions.

Authorities have urged people to exercise extreme caution while travelling during foggy conditions, warning that reduced visibility significantly increases the risk of accidents. Officials also indicated that disruptions could intensify if weather conditions do not improve.

The dense fog has not only affected ground transport but has also disrupted air traffic, underlining the severity of the winter weather spell currently gripping north India.
