Rithala Chemical Factory Fire Kills Four, Search Operations Continue in Northwest Delhi

Date:

New Delhi: A massive chemical factory fire in Rithala, located in Rohini Sector-5, claimed the lives of four people, with search and rescue operations still ongoing, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The blaze erupted Tuesday evening, with the first emergency call received at 7:25 pm, according to Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg. In response, 16 fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site near Rithala Metro Station to contain the inferno.

“The situation was extremely volatile due to the presence of chemicals on the premises. Our teams worked through the night to bring the fire under control,” Garg said.

Four charred bodies have been recovered so far, and the Delhi Police stated that a search operation is still underway to locate any additional victims or survivors.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, though initial reports suggest a chemical reaction may have triggered the explosion. Authorities are also examining whether safety norms and industrial compliance were followed by the unit.

The factory is situated in a densely populated industrial zone, raising serious concerns about fire safety, hazardous material handling, and emergency preparedness in the area.
