Delhi Police’s ‘Operation Aghaat’: Gogi Gang Hit Hard, 3 Shooters Nabbed in Rohini Encounter

Date:

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough against organized crime in Delhi, the police launched ‘Operation Aghaat’ and dealt a heavy blow to the notorious Gogi gang. During an encounter in Rohini’s Budh Vihar, three gangsters — Lalu, Irfan, and Nitesh — were arrested after a brief gunfight. Police confirmed that Lalu and Irfan were shot in the legs during the exchange of fire.

The encounter unfolded when police received intel about gangsters travelling in a car. On being stopped, they opened fire at the police but were quickly cornered and overpowered. A vehicle and weapons were recovered from the spot.

Backed by 40 police teams and 500 personnel, Operation Aghaat extended across Delhi overnight, leading to the arrest of over 60 criminals linked to multiple gangs. Police seized 15 sophisticated pistols, cash, drugs, silver, and gold during the raids.

DCP Hemant Tiwari said the crackdown followed directions from Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, who has ordered an all-out offensive against organized crime. “This is just the beginning. Gangsters who terrorized Delhi and NCR will not escape the law,” the DCP asserted.

The Gogi gang has been under police radar since its alleged involvement in supplying weapons for Atiq Ahmed’s murder in Prayagraj (April 2023). The gang continues to operate across Delhi and neighboring states, but officials say the latest action has significantly weakened its network.

This major success comes amid rising concerns over street crime, extortion rackets, and gang violence in Delhi. With consecutive operations in Outer North, Dwarka, and now Rohini, Delhi Police has sent a clear message — gangsters’ days in the capital are numbered.
