New Delhi: Customs officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized nearly 34.9 kilograms of suspected hydroponic marijuana (ganja) valued at approximately ₹34.9 crore in the international market and arrested two passengers arriving from Bangkok.

According to Customs officials, the operation was carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) on May 8, 2026, based on Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) profiling.

The two passengers had arrived in Delhi from Bangkok on Thai Airways Flight TG-323 and were intercepted after crossing the Customs Green Channel at IGI Airport.

During X-ray screening of their baggage, Customs officers noticed suspicious images. A detailed search of the luggage led to the recovery of 31 vacuum-sealed packets containing suspected hydroponic weed.

Officials stated that the total gross weight of the seized contraband, including packaging material, was found to be 34,935 grams.

Preliminary examination indicated that the substance was marijuana/ganja.

Customs officials said the act amounts to violation of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, punishable under Sections 20, 23 and 29 of the Act.

Both passengers were arrested on May 8 under Section 43(b) of the NDPS Act, while the contraband and packaging materials were seized under Section 43(a).

Officials confirmed that further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the source, intended recipients and wider trafficking network linked to the seizure.
