Customs Seizes ₹91 Lakh Worth Hydroponic Weed at Delhi Airport, Bangkok Passenger Arrested

Date:

New Delhi, May 30: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport have seized approximately 2.645 kg of hydroponic weed, valued at around ₹91 lakh in the illicit market, from an Indian passenger arriving from Bangkok.

According to Customs authorities, the seizure was made by officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) during a targeted operation at IGI Airport. The passenger had arrived in Delhi on IndiGo flight 6E-1064 from Bangkok on May 29, 2026, and was intercepted after crossing the Customs Green Channel.

During the examination of the passenger’s baggage, Customs officers noticed that the suitcase appeared unusually heavy. A detailed inspection of the luggage revealed specially designed false cavities concealed within the upper and lower sections of the suitcase.

Upon opening the concealed compartments, officers recovered two vacuum-sealed packets containing a green-coloured substance suspected to be hydroponic weed, a high-potency form of cannabis commonly trafficked through international drug smuggling networks.

The total gross weight of the recovered contraband was found to be approximately 2.645 kilograms.

Customs officials estimated the market value of the seized hydroponic weed at around ₹91 lakh.

A case has been registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the seized substance has been taken into custody for further examination and legal proceedings.

Officials said the passenger is being questioned to ascertain the source, intended destination and possible links to international narcotics trafficking networks.

Further investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling operation and determine whether the accused was acting on behalf of a larger drug syndicate.
