Dust Storm, Rain Bring Relief From Heatwave Across Delhi-NCR; Day Turns Dark as Weather Changes Abruptly

Date:

New Delhi, May 30: Delhi-NCR witnessed a dramatic change in weather on Friday as strong dust storms, gusty winds and widespread rainfall brought much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat that had gripped the region for the past several days.

Several parts of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad experienced sudden dark skies during the afternoon as dense clouds and dust storms swept across the region. The change in weather was followed by heavy rainfall and cool winds, significantly bringing down temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast rainfall and strong winds across Delhi-NCR over Friday and Saturday. The weather department’s prediction came true as thunderstorms and showers affected several areas across the National Capital Region.

Residents who had been struggling with soaring temperatures touching nearly 45 degrees Celsius welcomed the rainfall. The region had been experiencing intense heatwave conditions, with prolonged exposure to the sun leading to discomfort and a rise in heat-related illnesses.

Visuals from various parts of Delhi-NCR showed roads turning wet as rain lashed the region, while strong winds provided immediate respite from the oppressive heat. In Ghaziabad, rainfall was reported in several localities, with similar conditions prevailing in Noida and other adjoining areas.

The sudden spell of rain and cooler weather brought relief to commuters and residents alike, ending days of relentless heat and creating pleasant conditions across much of the region.

Weather officials have indicated that intermittent rain and strong winds may continue over the next few days, helping keep temperatures under control across Delhi-NCR.
