Customs Seize Nearly 48 Kg Hydroponic Weed Worth ₹48 Crore at Delhi IGI Airport

New Delhi, May 23: Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, have seized nearly 47.805 kilograms of suspected Hydroponic Weed (Ganja) valued at approximately ₹48 crore from two Thailand nationals arriving from Bangkok.

According to Customs officials, the operation was carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at IGI Airport.

Two Thailand Nationals Intercepted

The two passengers arrived in Delhi on board Flight AI-2356 from Bangkok on May 22, 2026.

Officials said the passengers were intercepted after crossing the Customs Green Channel based on specific profiling inputs and suspicious travel indicators.

Six Vacuum-Sealed Packets Recovered

During detailed baggage examination, Customs officers recovered:

  • Six vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain Hydroponic Weed

Out of the total seizure:

  • Four packets weighing around 29 kg were recovered from one passenger
  • Two packets weighing around 19 kg were recovered from the second passenger

The total net weight of the suspected narcotic substance recovered was approximately 47.805 kilograms.

Estimated Market Value ₹48 Crore

Officials stated that the estimated market value of the seized narcotic substance is around ₹48 crore.

The seizure is being described as one of the biggest drug recoveries at IGI Airport in recent times.

Customs officials said further investigation is currently underway to identify the larger smuggling network and determine the intended destination of the contraband.
