Amar Colony Murder Case: Police Seek 4-Day Remand of Accused Rahul Meena, Defence Opposes Custody

Date:

New Delhi: The investigation into the murder of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer’s daughter in South East Delhi’s Amar Colony has entered a crucial phase, with Delhi Police seeking a four-day custodial remand of the prime accused, Rahul Meena, to deepen the probe.

During court proceedings, counsel for the accused, Sayantini Sahoo, confirmed that the police have sought extended custody citing the need for further investigation. She stated that investigators are looking to recover key evidence, including the accused’s mobile phone, and to trace his exact movement route—how he entered and exited the crime scene, and the timeline of events surrounding the incident.

According to the defence, the police are also attempting to examine possible links to other individuals, indicating that the probe may expand beyond a single accused. Authorities are expected to investigate whether any accomplices were involved or if there is a wider network connected to the crime.

However, the defence has strongly opposed the remand, arguing that a four-day custodial interrogation is excessive and unnecessary. Advocate Sahoo pointed out that the case is highly sensitive and high-profile, and that the police had already acted swiftly in apprehending the accused shortly after the crime.

“The police moved with great speed and arrested him quickly. In such circumstances, prolonged custody is not justified,” she argued in court.

Sources indicate that the police are focusing on reconstructing the sequence of events, verifying digital evidence, and establishing a clear motive behind the crime. Recovery of devices and forensic correlation are expected to play a key role in strengthening the case.

The court is yet to take a final call on the duration of custody, even as the investigation continues to uncover critical details in one of Delhi’s most closely watched recent crime cases.
