Delhi Mayor, Israeli Ambassador Discuss Urban Innovation, Waste Management Collaboration

New Delhi, July 23: In a significant diplomatic and developmental exchange, Israeli Ambassador to India Mr. Reuven Azar paid a courtesy visit to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday, where he met with Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh and Commissioner Ashwani Kumar. The two sides held detailed discussions on urban development, civic innovation, and potential collaboration in areas such as waste management and smart city infrastructure.

Welcoming the ambassador, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh shared insights into MCD’s ongoing efforts to enhance civic services and make Delhi cleaner, greener, and more livable. He outlined the corporation’s key functions in solid waste management, primary healthcare, education, public lighting, and cultural heritage preservation, adding that MCD is increasingly turning toward smart solutions to improve urban governance.

The Mayor also conveyed India’s solidarity with Israel amid the current conflict situation, stating, “India and Israel share a bond of friendship and mutual respect. We stand with Israel during these challenging times.”

Ambassador Reuven Azar appreciated Delhi’s civic development and extended an invitation to Mayor Singh to visit Israel to explore its advancements in urban technologies and governance. He praised Delhi’s rich cultural heritage and expressed interest in building a knowledge-sharing partnership with MCD.

MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar emphasized that Delhi could benefit greatly from Israel’s successful urban management models. “Israel’s innovations in digital governance, solid waste processing, and citizen services are globally acknowledged. Our collaboration can bring in new solutions for Delhi,” he stated.

Officials noted that the exchange of best practices and technology will contribute to improving civic services in areas such as health, education, parks, and public amenities.

Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Leader of the House Pravesh Verma, Standing Committee Vice Chairperson Sundar Singh, Additional Commissioners, and other senior MCD officers were present at the meeting.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi reiterated its commitment to incorporating global innovations for improved public service delivery and urban infrastructure.
