NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police sub-inspector posted at Prashant Vihar police station was apprehended by the CBI while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹80,000 after seeking a total bribe of ₹1 lakh to favour a complainant in a criminal case, the agency said on Monday.
The CBI said it registered the bribery case on October 4, 2026, following a complaint against the sub-inspector, who was the investigating officer in a case registered against the complainant at Prashant Vihar police station.

₹20,000 allegedly taken before the trap
According to the agency, ₹20,000 found in the complainant’s pocket during a personal search was allegedly taken by the officer under duress. The officer then allegedly told the complainant to bring the remaining ₹80,000 the next day.
The CBI laid a trap on October 4 and caught the sub-inspector while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹80,000, its press note stated.
Further investigation underway
The agency said further investigation was continuing. Its October 5 press note did not identify the officer by name or provide further details of the criminal case in which the alleged demand was made.
The alleged demand and recovery form part of the CBI’s case; the announcement does not establish guilt.
