New Delhi: A backpack search near Munak Nahar in Bawana led to the recovery of 8.116 kg of ganja and the arrest of a 34-year-old woman, according to Delhi Police.
Police said Narela Industrial Area police station received information on October 4, 2026, about a woman carrying suspected contraband near Hanuman Mandir in C-Block, JJ Colony. A team reached the area and spotted a woman with a backpack.
Four packets recovered from backpack
According to police, the woman turned back and began walking away hurriedly after noticing the team. She was apprehended and identified as Afsana, a resident of Bawana. A search of her backpack allegedly yielded four brown-coloured packets containing ganja, weighing 8.116 kg in total.
FIR No. 555/2026 was registered at Narela Industrial Area police station under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. Police said the woman was arrested and the suspected contraband seized.
Police investigate supply links
The operation was supervised by ACP Narela Rakesh Kumar and led by Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO of Narela Industrial Area. The team comprised SI Dinesh Kumar, SI Virender, Woman Head Constable Mamta and Constable Dushyant.
Further investigation is underway to identify the source of procurement, trace the supply and distribution links, and establish whether other people were involved, police said.
