New Delhi, Aug. 2: Polling for the constitution of 23 Town Vending Committees (TVCs) across 12 zones of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was conducted peacefully, fairly and successfully on Saturday under the provisions of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 and the Delhi Street Vendors Rules, 2017.
The polling process was conducted under the supervision of MCD Chief Election Officer Sanjeev Mittal, Additional Commissioner, along with the Central Licensing Department, Zonal Deputy Commissioners and Returning Officers, in accordance with statutory provisions and prescribed guidelines.
Voting commenced at 8 a.m. at all designated polling stations across the 12 zones. Security arrangements, voter facilitation measures, law and order, and other essential facilities were put in place. Election control rooms in all zones monitored polling progress and voter turnout every hour to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
According to MCD, around 90,000 voters were registered, with an approximate voter turnout of 41 per cent. Fifteen strong rooms and 17 counting centres were established for the election process.
The civic body said polling remained peaceful throughout the day, with no reports of any untoward incident or law-and-order issue. At the time of issuing the statement, polling was still underway at a few polling stations.
Counting of votes will begin at 8 a.m. on August 4, 2026, at the notified counting centres.
The MCD thanked the Central Licensing Department, Election Department, election officials, polling personnel, zonal administration, security agencies and all departments involved for ensuring that the election process was conducted peacefully, transparently and efficiently.
The civic body reiterated its commitment to democratic values, transparency and good governance under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 and the Delhi Street Vendors Rules, 2017, while continuing efforts to strengthen the representation, participation and inclusive urban governance of street vendors.
