Delhi LG Reviews Traffic Management Strategy, Directs Sustained Crackdown on Wrong-Side Driving and Illegal Parking

Date:

New Delhi, June 29: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Sunday reviewed the capital’s traffic management strategy and directed officials to sustain strict enforcement against traffic violations, while accelerating the adoption of technology-driven solutions to improve mobility across the city.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, the Lieutenant Governor assessed a detailed presentation made by the Delhi Traffic Police in the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha and other senior officials.

The review focused on measures being implemented to reduce congestion, strengthen traffic enforcement and develop long-term infrastructure solutions for Delhi’s rapidly growing transport network.

Focus on Congestion Hotspots

The Lieutenant Governor noted that targeted interventions at major traffic bottlenecks, coupled with continuous engineering improvements and the use of technology, have started showing encouraging results.

He said the ongoing efforts have led to gradual improvements in traffic flow across several congestion-prone corridors and stressed the need to maintain the momentum.

Strict Action Against Traffic Violations

Sandhu directed officials to continue strict enforcement against major traffic violations, particularly:

  • Wrong-side driving.
  • Unauthorized parking.
  • Other violations contributing to traffic congestion.

He said sustained enforcement remains essential for ensuring smoother traffic movement and improving road safety.

‘Project Sangam’ to Strengthen Citizen Participation

The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed the progress of Project Sangam, a citizen-centric initiative aimed at involving local residents in identifying traffic-related issues and developing area-specific solutions.

He said community participation would play an important role in improving traffic management and addressing local mobility challenges more effectively.

Push for Future-Ready Traffic Systems

Emphasising the need for long-term planning, Sandhu directed the Delhi Traffic Police to continue focusing on:

  • Future-ready transport infrastructure.
  • Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS).
  • Adoption of advanced traffic technologies.
  • Smart mobility solutions for efficient traffic regulation.

He said technology would remain a key pillar in modernising Delhi’s traffic management framework.

Assures Full Support to Delhi Traffic Police

The Lieutenant Governor assured the Delhi Traffic Police of full administrative support in its efforts to build a safer, more efficient and seamless mobility ecosystem for residents.

LG’s Statement

In a post on X after the meeting, Sandhu said:

“Reviewed a detailed presentation by Delhi Traffic Police today, along with the Delhi Police Commissioner and senior officials. It is encouraging to see the focused efforts and strategic interventions being undertaken to improve traffic management across Delhi.”

He added that targeted action against congestion, continuous engineering interventions and technology-driven solutions had begun delivering incremental improvements.

Sandhu further said that strict enforcement against wrong-side driving and unauthorized parking must remain a sustained priority, while appreciating the progress of Project Sangam, which seeks to strengthen engagement with local communities.

The Lieutenant Governor said he had directed officials to maintain the current momentum with continued emphasis on intelligent traffic management systems, future-ready infrastructure and advanced technologies, while assuring the Delhi Traffic Police of full support in delivering a safe, efficient and seamless mobility experience for every citizen of the national capital.
