Rekha Gupta Pushes ‘Zero Tolerance’ Cleanliness Drive; Waste-to-Energy Plants, Toilets Revamp on Agenda

Date:

New Delhi: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is intensifying efforts to transform the capital through a comprehensive push towards cleanliness, modern waste management, and improved urban infrastructure.

In a recent review meeting of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) works, the government issued a clear “zero tolerance” policy against negligence in sanitation and waste management. Strict directions have been given to ensure efficient garbage disposal, enhanced cleanliness systems, and accountability at every level.

As part of the plan, major waste-to-energy plants are set to be developed or upgraded at Ghazipur, Narela, Okhla, and Tehkhand. Additionally, around 1,000 public toilets and urinal blocks across the city will be redeveloped to improve hygiene and accessibility. A new biogas plant is also expected to be operational soon in areas like Ghazipur and Goyla Dairy.

The government has also emphasized scientific waste management practices, including regular sweeping of major roads, markets, and public spaces. Strict penalties will be imposed on those found littering or contributing to environmental degradation.

Special drives have been intensified to remove garbage along railway tracks, while cleanliness in markets will be ensured through coordinated efforts between MCD and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

In infrastructure development, the government has mandated that only experienced agencies be entrusted with road construction works, with clear accountability mechanisms. Each project will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.

Officials stated that these initiatives are not merely about cleanliness but reflect a broader vision to build a clean, organized, and sustainable Delhi. The government reiterated its commitment to taking decisive and transparent steps towards the goal of a “Viksit Delhi.”
