Big Catch at Delhi Airport: 13 Gold Bars Seized from Myanmar Passengers

New Delhi: In a major action against international gold smuggling, Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi, seized 2,158 grams of gold bars worth ₹2.89 crore and arrested three Myanmar national male passengers on January 14, 2026.

The seizure was made by the Airport Customs Preventive Team (Shift D) when the passengers arrived at Terminal-3 from Yangon, Myanmar, aboard flight 8M-620.

According to Customs officials, the three passengers were intercepted while attempting to cross the Green Channel at the international arrival hall. Based on suspicion, the officers conducted a thorough personal search and baggage examination, which led to the recovery of 13 uneven rectangular-shaped gold bars concealed on their persons.

The total weight of the seized gold was 2,158 grams, which was appraised at a tariff value of ₹2,89,81,530.

The recovered gold bars were seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. Subsequently, the three accused passengers were placed under arrest under Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.

Customs authorities stated that further investigation is in progress to ascertain the source of the smuggled gold, possible syndicate involvement, and intended distribution networks.
