MCD Cracks Down on Mosquito Breeding in Govt Offices Near ITO; 44 Notices Issued, 34 Prosecuted

Date:

New Delhi: In a focused effort to combat the rising threat of vector-borne diseases, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out a special anti-mosquito breeding drive targeting government offices near ITO, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said on Wednesday.

During the drive, MCD’s Public Health Department inspected 266 government buildings, identifying mosquito breeding sites in 50 locations, all of which were immediately destroyed. Out of the 5,139 water containers examined, Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 110 containers, prompting swift action.

As a result, MCD issued 44 notices and launched 34 prosecutions against erring institutions. Prosecution was initiated against prominent government buildings including the ESI Building at ITO, CBSE DDU Marg, Sanskrit Bharti Bhawan, CR Building, Vikas Bhawan, and ITPO.

Notices were served to institutions such as Hindi Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Samiti, District Court Rouse Avenue, Prasar Bharati, PWD Building ITO, AGCR ITO, and Dayal Singh Library, among others, for failing to prevent mosquito breeding on their premises.

Emphasizing accountability, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh urged all government offices in Delhi to appoint a Nodal Officer responsible for maintaining hygiene and monitoring potential breeding sites. He stressed that overhead tanks must be covered, and water stagnation in flower pots, discarded vehicles, coolers, and junkyards must be strictly avoided.

“The MCD is working on a war footing to contain mosquito-borne illnesses. Prevention is the only solution, and government offices must lead by example,” the Mayor added.
