Delhi Education Minister Urges Parents to Trust Government Schools, Promises Smart Classrooms and Holistic Development

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood interacted with parents and students at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Chirag Delhi during the orientation for the new academic session. Addressing the gathering, Sood emphasized the Delhi Government’s commitment to modern, inclusive, and inspiring education for every child.

He reassured parents about the safety, academic excellence, and emotional support provided in government schools and urged them not to feel inferior for choosing public institutions. “You should be proud. Government schools of Delhi are no less than private schools. Your child is a star and will shine here,” he said.

Sood encouraged parents to be actively involved, highlighting that a child’s first school experience sets the tone for their life journey. “When a child leaves the comfort of home, school becomes the place where transformation begins. Know your child’s environment, teachers, and school staff — this is why we organise such orientation programs,” he added.

He recounted how, decades ago, Delhi’s government schools produced doctors, engineers, IAS officers, and scientists. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is enhancing the quality of education with AI-equipped smart classrooms, computer labs, and technology-integrated learning.

He further elaborated on welfare initiatives, including scholarships for SC/ST students, merit-based awards, and special support for students appearing in competitive exams. “There will be no discrimination. The government is committed to ensuring every capable child gets the support they need, even through remedial classes during summer,” he assured.

On sports development, Sood announced that medal winners at international competitions will receive significant financial incentives under the Chief Minister Sports Promotion Scheme. For instance:

  • ₹7 crore for Olympic/Paralympic gold,
  • ₹5 crore for silver, and
  • ₹3 crore for bronze.
Asian Games and Commonwealth Games winners will also receive prizes, making Delhi’s support the highest in the country.

Sood called this “a phase of transformation” not just for children but for parents too. “You’ll learn along with your children — from ABCs to values. Let us work together to shape future citizens who’ll serve their families, society, and nation.”

He concluded the visit by planting a tree on campus and urging everyone to treat it as a commitment, not a ceremonial gesture.
