Gangster Romil Vohra Shot Dead in Joint Police Encounter at Delhi-Haryana Border

Date:

New Delhi: In a major crackdown on inter-state crime, notorious gangster Romil Vohra, wanted in several high-profile murder and arms cases, was killed in a police encounter near the Delhi-Haryana border early Tuesday morning, officials confirmed.

Romil Vohra, a native of Yamunanagar, Haryana, was the subject of more than eight criminal cases, including a triple murder in Yamunanagar and another homicide in Kurukshetra. He was also facing charges under the Arms Act in Delhi and had a ₹3 lakh bounty on his head announced by Haryana Police.

According to Additional CP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah, Vohra was allegedly acting on orders from gangster Virender Pratap alias Kala Rana, recently extradited from Bangkok, and his brother Surya Pratap alias Noni Rana, who remains abroad.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police, in coordination with the Haryana STF, acted on intelligence inputs suggesting Vohra’s movement in the capital with the intention to commit another crime. A joint operation was launched near Kishangarh police post on the Delhi-Haryana border.

Early Tuesday morning, Vohra was intercepted by the team. A gunfight ensued, during which a sub-inspector each from Delhi and Haryana Police sustained injuries. Vohra was also shot,” said Kushwah.

All three injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared Vohra dead. The injured officers are undergoing treatment and are reported to be out of danger.

Officials added that standard legal protocols for encounter deaths are being followed.

The operation marks a significant success in the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb gang violence, contract killings, and illegal arms networks operating across state borders.
