New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested two men in connection with a brazen daylight snatching near the Red Fort that left a 63-year-old woman injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning as the victim, a freelance beautician, was traveling in an auto-rickshaw when the suspects, riding a scooter, targeted her.
According to authorities, Arjit Arora (31) and Ravi Malik (33) were apprehended Sunday evening after a swift investigation. The victim was returning home when the duo allegedly sped alongside her auto-rickshaw and forcibly grabbed her handbag.
The force of the snatching caused the woman to fall from the moving vehicle, resulting in injuries that required hospitalization. The stolen handbag contained Rs 20,000 in cash, a silver chain, and important documents.
Police were able to identify the getaway scooter and trace it back to a previous owner, who led them to the suspects.
“During interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime, revealing that their actions were driven by drug addiction and financial desperation,” stated a senior police officer.
They admitted to spending the majority of the stolen money on drugs and leisure activities. Police recovered the snatched handbag, Rs 6,000 in cash, and the scooter used in the robbery. It was revealed that Malik had purchased the scooter on installments but turned to crime due to financial difficulties. Arora also has a previous record. The investigation is ongoing.
