NEW DELHI: A woman’s decomposing body was discovered inside a bed box in a Delhi flat, leading to the arrest of two individuals, including the flat’s owner. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vivekanand Mishra (64), the flat owner, and Abhay Kumar Jha, also known as Sonu (29). The woman’s husband, Ashish Kumar (45), is currently on the run.
According to police sources, the victim, Anju, also known as Anjali (35), resided with her husband in Delhi. After witnessing the three men in a compromising situation, she left home and sought refuge at her parents’ house in Ludhiana, Punjab. Ashish later retrieved Anju from Ludhiana on March 21 and brought her back to Delhi. Tragically, on March 23, the three men killed Anju, concealed her body inside a bed box at Mishra’s flat, and fled to Jaipur, where they sought shelter at Jha’s cousin’s residence.
Analysis of Call Detail Records confirmed that all three suspects traveled together to Jaipur on March 23. Mishra returned to Delhi the following day, while Abhay and Ashish headed to Bihar. As the men deliberated on how to dispose of the body, the Vivek Vihar Police Station received a PCR call on March 28 regarding a foul odor emanating from a DDA flat in Satyam Enclave.
Upon investigation, the police found the residence locked from the outside with signs of a struggle near the back door. Upon entering the flat, they discovered Anju’s decomposed body wrapped in a blanket and concealed in a bag inside the bed’s storage compartment.
The police swiftly located the homeowner, Mishra, and apprehended him at Surajmal Park in Anand Vihar as he tried to escape, according to a senior police official.
During questioning, Mishra disclosed the involvement of Jha, a driver from Supaul, Bihar, and Anju’s husband, Ashish.

Mishra informed authorities that on March 28, Jha came to Delhi to assist him in disposing of the body and stayed at a hotel in Paharganj. However, upon hearing about Mishra’s arrest, Jha attempted to flee to Bihar by boarding the Magadh Express but was apprehended at Aligarh Railway Station with the assistance of the Government Railway Police (GRP).
The police are currently on the lookout for Ashish, and a case has been filed as the investigation continues.
Anju was married to Ashish Kumar, a native of Bihar, and they have a four-year-old daughter.
