New Delhi: Recurring waste accumulation at a DTC bus stand in Surajmal Vihar came under scrutiny as Deputy Mayor Monica Pant inspected the area during MCD’s “Delhi Ko Kude Se Azaadi” cleanliness campaign.
Pant directed officials and sanitation staff to undertake a special cleaning drive at the bus stand and its surroundings, ensure regular cleaning of public spaces and continuously monitor locations where garbage tends to collect.
Roadside waste cleared between Leela and Ginger hotels
The operation covered both sides of PWD Road and its footpaths from the Leela Hotel Red Light to Ginger Hotel in Surajmal Vihar. Teams removed garbage, plastic, dry waste and accumulated roadside debris, according to MCD.
Local residents, sanitation workers and volunteers participated in clearing discarded material from the roads and footpaths.
Residents urged to use designated waste disposal points
Pant said maintaining cleanliness was a shared responsibility of MCD and residents. She described the campaign as an effort to build a cleaner Delhi through active public participation and stressed the importance of keeping roads, bus stands and other public places clean.
She appealed to residents not to litter, to dispose of waste only at designated locations and to cooperate with MCD in keeping their neighbourhoods clean.
The corporation said it was expanding the campaign across the city, with special drives covering major roads, markets, public spaces, bus stands and other locations vulnerable to waste accumulation.
