New Delhi: Hindu Rao Hospital’s ICU capacity is being expanded from eight to 18 beds, while a separate plan envisages an approximately 200-bed ward block at the site of its old, dilapidated Residence Block, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi said during an inspection.
The ICU expansion is in progress. The proposed ward block remains a plan, alongside a proposal to remove the old Laundry Block and relocate the Residence Block to that location, according to the mayor.
ICU expansion and ward redevelopment
Wahi said the hospital was being upgraded to improve healthcare services and critical-care capacity. He said new medical equipment had been provided and a new block had been inaugurated.
The proposed changes to the Residence and Laundry blocks are intended to make better use of the hospital premises and create room for further expansion of medical facilities.
During his visit, the mayor reviewed the Labour Room’s upgradation and its CTG monitors. He also sought an update on work in the Paediatric Emergency Block and other wards.
Medicine availability and patient facilities reviewed
Wahi visited the OPD Block, wards, Paediatric Emergency Block, ICU and Labour Room, and interacted with patients about their treatment and the services they were receiving. He specifically sought feedback on the availability of medicines and directed officials to ensure timely access to all essential medicines.
He ordered improvements in cleanliness within the premises and wards, adequate lighting through LED installations and immediate repairs to broken benches used by patients and attendants. After reviewing roads inside the hospital, he directed that necessary repairs be undertaken.
The mayor asked officials to complete upgradation and repair work within the stipulated timelines and promptly address issues affecting patient convenience. Alongside expanded medical facilities, he said, a clean, safe and convenient environment remained a priority.
Additional Commissioner Pankaj Naresh Aggarwal, Medical Superintendent Sumanlata Mehendiratta, Deputy Commissioner Kanika and senior MCD and hospital officials accompanied him.
