Delhi: Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor has ordered zone-wise targets to shorten fire-service response times and stronger safety inspections after emergency calls reached a six-year high of 36,877.
The directions followed a review of Delhi Fire Service operational preparedness with Home Minister Ashish Sood. In the account of the meeting, the LG said nearly 99% of fires had occurred in uncertified premises.

Focus on vulnerable neighbourhoods and safety audits
Officials were directed to prioritise faster response in densely populated and vulnerable areas, and to strengthen inspections across residential areas, markets and industrial premises.
The LG also called for proactive public-awareness campaigns to make residents partners in fire prevention.
New stations, recruitment and GIS command centre
The review set out directions to expedite land transfers with the Delhi Development Authority for new fire stations, fast-track recruitment and establish a GIS-enabled Command and Control Centre.
The measures were presented as priorities for strengthening prevention, preparedness and emergency response across Delhi.
