Delhi Government Orders CAG Audit of DISCOMs to Ensure Transparency and Accountability: Ashish Sood

New Delhi, July 2: Delhi Energy Minister Ashish Sood has announced that the Delhi Government has ordered a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit of the capital’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs), describing it as a major step towards ensuring transparency, accountability and good governance in the power sector.

Sharing the announcement on social media platform X, the Minister said the decision has been taken under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to safeguard the interests of electricity consumers and taxpayers in Delhi.

According to Ashish Sood, the government believes that the steady rise in Regulatory Assets and the financial issues associated with them require an impartial and comprehensive examination. He said the CAG audit will help establish facts, fix accountability and pave the way for institutional reforms in Delhi’s electricity sector.

The Minister stated that the audit is expected to bring greater transparency to the functioning of power distribution companies while strengthening financial discipline and public confidence in the electricity distribution system.

He further said that the Delhi Government remains committed to protecting the interests of every electricity consumer and taxpayer by building a power sector that is transparent, accountable and driven by public interest.

The government believes that the findings of the CAG audit will help improve governance in the electricity sector and support policy decisions aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and consumer welfare.
