Notorious Gangster Praveen alias Bali Apprehended in Delhi’s Dwarka Area

Date:

New Delhi: Authorities have apprehended a 19-year-old member of the notorious Kapil Sangwan, also known as the Nandu gang, who was wanted for his involvement in two serious criminal cases, including attempted murder and armed robbery. The arrest took place in the Dwarka area of Delhi, as confirmed by police on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, officers arrested the suspect, identified as Praveen alias Bali, near Dhoolsiras Chowk on the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) during the night of May 15, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Aditya Gautam.

Praveen had previously been detained as a juvenile in connection with the murder of former councillor Surender Matiala, a crime allegedly orchestrated by members of the Nandu gang operating from abroad, the DCP reported. Following his release, he established his own gang and began extorting money from local bootleggers and residents.

Having been associated with the Nandu gang since his teenage years, Praveen initially connected with a key member, Sunil alias Sheela, through social media, police revealed.

Currently, Praveen is wanted in two significant cases: an armed robbery reported at the Sultanpuri police station in 2022 and a separate case involving attempted murder and assault on police personnel, during which a constable was shot and injured in Tilak Nagar in March of this year, Gautam stated.

In addition to these charges, Praveen was involved in two other cases as a minor: a robbery in Dwarka Sector-23 and a murder case in Bindapur in 2023, according to police records.

During the arrest, law enforcement recovered a sophisticated .32 caliber pistol along with three live cartridges from Praveen’s possession. A case under the Arms Act has been filed at the Crime Branch police station.
