New Delhi: A social media display of an allegedly illegal firearm led Delhi Police’s Outer North District AATS to arrest two men and recover two firearms, a magazine and six live cartridges, police said.
The accused were identified as Shankar, about 25, of Narela, and Roshan Jha, about 22, of Jeevan Park in Siraspur. Police said technical analysis and field verification helped the team identify Shankar after information about the firearm display came to its notice.
First arrest leads police to alleged supplier
Police said a country-made pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from Shankar when he was apprehended. A case under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act was registered at Narela police station on September 26, 2026.
According to police, Shankar told investigators that Roshan had supplied the weapon and cartridge. He also said Roshan had earlier given him another firearm and subsequently taken it back. The team then apprehended Roshan.
Police said Roshan disclosed that, after learning of Shankar’s apprehension, he had concealed another firearm and ammunition near the Bawana–Badli canal. At the location he identified, officers recovered a packet containing what police described as a sophisticated pistol, one magazine and five live cartridges of 7.65 mm calibre.
Weapons supply chain under investigation
Police said Shankar had one previous involvement in a theft case. Roshan had four previous involvements in murder, robbery and Arms Act cases and was also wanted in a Samaypur Badli case involving an alleged attempt to commit culpable homicide, according to the statement.
Investigators are examining where the weapons were procured, their supply chain, whether firearms were supplied to others and possible links with criminal networks. The accused’s involvement in other cases is also being examined.
The AATS team was led by Inspector Anand Kumar Jha and included ASIs Naresh Kumar and Azhar Anwar, Head Constables Manjeet Singh and Sandeep, and Constables Mayank and Manish. It worked under ACP (Operations) Dinesh Kumar and Additional DCP-I Lokeshwaran R, following directions from Joint Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Vijay Singh.
Outer North District police urged people to report the display, possession or circulation of illegal firearms, including on social media, with available details. It asked users not to share or promote such content.
