New Delhi, May 26: In a major breakthrough against organized crime, the Delhi Crime Branch has arrested a close associate of notorious gangster Hashim Baba who was wanted in connection with a murder case registered at Welcome Police Station in northeast Delhi.
According to officials, the accused had been absconding after allegedly shooting a man dead inside a café in the Welcome area following a sudden altercation.
The operation was carried out by the NDR unit of the Crime Branch.
Police said the accused had been hiding in Karnal, Haryana, and was constantly changing locations in an attempt to evade arrest.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Crime Branch team tracked down and apprehended the accused after a sustained surveillance operation.
Investigators said the accused, along with his associates, allegedly opened fire inside the café, resulting in the victim’s death.
The successful operation was led by Inspector Rakesh Sharma under the supervision of ACP Umesh Barthwal and overall guidance of DCP Pankaj Kumar.
Delhi Police officials said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other members linked to the Hashim Baba gang and to uncover the wider criminal network involved in the case.
