Tight Security for Republic Day Parade: Electronic Gadgets Banned, Markets Across Delhi Under High Alert

Date:

New Delhi: As preparations for the 77th Republic Day Parade 2026 gather momentum, authorities have announced strict entry restrictions for spectators attending the celebrations at Kartavya Path in Delhi.

Officials have clarified that mobile chargers, earphones, power banks, and other electronic accessories will not be permitted inside the parade venue. Carrying prohibited items may result in denial of entry, regardless of valid passes. Sharp objects and potentially dangerous items are also strictly banned as part of enhanced security protocols.

This year’s Republic Day Parade will feature 30 tableaux built around the themes of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, showcasing India’s cultural diversity, including elements inspired by Indian cinema and a visual presentation highlighting Operation Sindoor, officials said.

Meanwhile, security has been significantly tightened across major markets in the national capital in view of Republic Day celebrations. Areas such as Old Delhi, Connaught Place, Sarojini Nagar, and Khan Market have been placed under heightened surveillance with the deployment of Delhi Police, paramilitary personnel, and bomb disposal squads.

Market associations have also issued advisories urging shopkeepers and visitors to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. The intensified measures come in the backdrop of last year’s blast incident near the Red Fort, prompting authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to security lapses.

While most traders have welcomed the move, some shop owners have expressed concerns over the temporary nature of security arrangements, stressing the need for sustained safety measures in busy commercial zones.

Authorities have urged citizens to follow guidelines strictly and plan visits accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the Republic Day period.
