MCD Launches Anti-Encroachment Drive in Hauz Khas’ Qutub Institutional Area

Date:

New Delhi, May 27: The South Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the Qutub Institutional Area under Hauz Khas ward, removing illegal structures and temporary platforms from roads and footpaths.

The joint enforcement action was conducted by MCD teams with the support of officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and local police authorities.

During the operation, temporary structures and platforms constructed on roads and footpaths were demolished using JCB machines. Encroachments around the walls of educational institutions and parks were also removed as part of the drive.

MCD officials additionally seized goods kept outside shops during the action.

South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar said the initiative reflects the civic body’s continued commitment towards maintaining organised public spaces and ensuring the safety and welfare of citizens.

As part of the operation, several illegal carts, roadside stalls and unauthorised shop extensions occupying both sides of the road and footpaths were removed.

Officials stated that the joint drive was necessary to free government land from encroachment and keep public spaces clear of unauthorised structures.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said strict action against encroachers will continue in the future to ensure that public spaces remain obstruction-free for citizens.
