Delhi Metro adds Pink Line coach occupancy display

Date:

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has extended its real-time coach occupancy display to stations on the Pink Line. Platform screens show estimated load levels for six coaches shortly before a train arrives.

The Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) has shown individual-coach occupancy on Magenta Line platforms since 2022. DMRC said that feature has helped passengers make informed boarding decisions and distribute passenger loads more evenly.

On the Pink Line, load sensors fitted in coaches compare each coach’s current weight with its empty weight. That difference is used to calculate an approximate passenger-load percentage for coaches C1 to C6. The displayed percentages are estimates, not exact passenger counts, and appear shortly before the train reaches the platform.

DMRC said linking data on Line 7 was challenging because the Pink Line is circular. It said the display can help passengers identify less crowded coaches, reduce the need to walk along a platform after a train arrives and distribute passenger loads more evenly, particularly during peak hours.
