New Delhi: Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi warned that unauthorised encroachments on roads, footpaths and public spaces would face action under the prescribed rules as he led a cleanliness drive at Malviya Nagar market on October 12.
Wahi personally joined the road-cleaning work during the drive organised by Malviya Nagar MLA and Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay, a former Delhi BJP president. MCD Additional Commissioner Pankaj Naresh Aggarwal and other civic officials also participated.
The mayor said sanitation and improved waste management needed to be accompanied by action to keep public spaces free from encroachments. Keeping roads and footpaths accessible was necessary for the safe and convenient movement of pedestrians and other commuters, he said.
Call for sustained cleaning and public participation
Wahi urged market associations, shopkeepers and residents to put waste only at designated locations, avoid littering and cooperate with sanitation workers. Cleanliness was a shared responsibility of citizens and the civic body, he said.
He said such drives should continue beyond a single day and become a sustained effort supported by public participation. The mayor called for better coordination between MCD officials, elected representatives, local traders and residents to improve sanitation and civic amenities.
Wahi praised Upadhyay’s work on sanitation, public grievances and civic facilities in the area. He said regular dialogue between public representatives and MCD was essential to address local needs and improve services.
The mayor said MCD was working under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership to make Delhi cleaner, healthier and better organised. Municipal councillors, resident welfare association representatives and local residents took part in the Malviya Nagar programme.
