New Delhi: Delhi Congress has announced a march to the Supreme Court on Monday, October 12, saying participants will submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India demanding an end to alleged vote theft, a halt to SIR and the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar.
The announcement was shared on October 11 with a video featuring Rahul Gandhi holding a copy of the Constitution of India. The written appeal called on young people, opposition parties, civil society and those who stand with democracy and the Constitution to join.
Call to march together
The post said participants would march as Indians, rising above differences of party, gender, caste, community and state. It framed the proposed mobilisation around love, brotherhood and patriotism.
Delhi Congress said a memorandum would be submitted to the Chief Justice on behalf of the country. The demands in the post were to stop what it called vote theft, stop SIR and seek Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Allegation over previous day’s protest
The statement alleged that young people who had come onto Delhi’s streets for a peaceful protest on the previous day were beaten by police and people it described as BJP goons. This is an allegation made in the Congress post.
The appeal also criticised Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Ajit Doval and Mohan Bhagwat, saying they could not suppress the country’s voice or intimidate those taking part.
Time and route not announced in post
The source announces a march to the Supreme Court on October 12, rather than reporting that such a march has already taken place. It does not give a gathering time, starting point, detailed route or information about police permission.
