Vidya Vahini: Nearly 18,000 Delhi Schoolgirls Receive Bicycles, Says Government

New Delhi: Nearly 18,000 girl students in Delhi have received bicycles under the Vidya Vahini scheme so far, the Delhi government said, reporting progress towards its target of covering about 1.40 lakh Class 9 girls.

The government said the bicycles were intended to make the journey to school easier and more convenient. The scheme’s stated focus is supporting girls’ education and helping them become more independent.

In its update, the government linked easier travel to greater confidence and self-reliance among students. The 18,000 figure is the number distributed so far; the 1.40 lakh figure is the coverage target for Class 9 students.
