New Delhi: An interception of two vehicles on the Haryana-to-Delhi route led Outer North police to a storage godown in Alipur, taking the total reported recovery of alleged illegal firecrackers to approximately 2,101 kg.
Police said 1,350 kg was recovered from two Tata Ace vehicles and another 751 kg from the godown during follow-up investigation. Three people were apprehended, and investigators are now tracing the procurement, storage and distribution chain.
Vehicle interception led to storage point
According to the police account, the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) received specific information on October 1, 2026, about a consignment being transported from Haryana towards Delhi through UER-II in Bawana. After verification and deployment at the identified location, the team intercepted the two vehicles and apprehended their drivers.
Further inquiries led police to a godown at ZMH Chowk near Jeet Farm House in Alipur. Police said the additional 751 kg of firecrackers was recovered there from the possession of Manoj Kumar, 34, of Tilak Nagar.
Three apprehended; two vehicles recovered
Police identified the drivers as Amit Gupta and Sunil, both 42 and residents of Bindapur, Uttam Nagar. Two Tata Ace tempos allegedly used to transport the consignment were also recovered.
The police note said FIR No. 549/26, dated October 2, was registered at PS NIA under Sections 223(b) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 9(b) of the Explosives Act. These are the provisions cited in the police account.
The operation was led by Inspector Parmod Kumar, in charge of AHTU, under the supervision of ACP Shyam Sunder and the guidance of Additional DCP-I Lokeshwaran R.
Supply chain and destination under investigation
Police said they were investigating the source of procurement, ownership and intended destination of the recovered firecrackers, along with the roles of others involved in their transportation, storage and distribution.
Delhi Police appealed to residents not to purchase, store, transport or use unauthorised firecrackers and to report information about illegal storage or movement. Further legal action would depend on the investigation and available evidence, police said.
