CBI Arrests Delhi PWD Assistant Engineer and Two Others in ₹21 Lakh Bribery Case

Date:

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Engineer of the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) and two private persons, including a representative of M/s Kaura Construction Company and an employee of the firm, in connection with an alleged bribery case.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on July 27 against the accused on allegations that the Assistant Engineer abused his official position by extending undue favours to the contractor in connection with PWD works in return for illegal gratification.

The agency alleged that the representative of the private firm regularly paid bribes to the Assistant Engineer through various means, including through an employee. On July 27, the representative allegedly instructed the employee to deliver ₹21 lakh to the Assistant Engineer at his residence in Pitampura, New Delhi.

The CBI conducted a search at the Assistant Engineer’s residence and recovered the ₹21 lakh allegedly delivered as bribe. It also seized incriminating documents and ₹15.50 lakh in cash from the residence.

Searches at the residence of the representative of M/s Kaura Construction Company led to the recovery of incriminating documents and ₹46.75 lakh in cash, the agency said.

Further investigation is underway.
