New Delhi, July 9: The Delhi Government has announced a major initiative to preserve the rich civilisational and cultural legacy of Old Delhi while developing the historic area into a modern heritage district with improved civic infrastructure and public amenities.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the government has taken key policy decisions aimed at balancing heritage conservation with modern urban development, ensuring that Old Delhi retains its historical identity while becoming more accessible, organised and visitor-friendly.
The initiative is expected to focus on strengthening civic infrastructure, improving public spaces, enhancing tourism facilities and preserving the architectural and cultural heritage of one of the Capital’s oldest settlements.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government’s objective is to protect Old Delhi’s historic character while creating better infrastructure and improving the overall experience for residents, businesses and tourists.
The proposed modernisation drive is expected to integrate heritage conservation with urban renewal measures, promoting sustainable development without compromising the area’s historical significance.
The Delhi Government said further details regarding the implementation of the heritage-modernisation initiative will be announced in due course as planning and execution move forward.
